If you are a first time user, we would recommend you to start by wearing your period underwear at home or for shorter lengths of time. This will give you a good gauge on how long you can wear each piece and when you may need to change to a fresh pair.
The materials used in each Mooncheeks period underwear is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®️ certified. The STANDARD 100 label certifies that our underwear is free from harmful substances and is safe for human health. Our underwear also do not contain silver microparticles and is chemical free.
Yes you absolutely can! You can use your period underwear on it’s own to replace period products, or you can wear your period underwear with a pad, tampon or menstruation cup, the choice is yours!
Yes! Our period underwear can also be used for bladder leaks as our undies are designed to absorb fluid and prevent leaks. Just like period blood, urine can be absorbed by the underwear's absorbent layers and kept away from your skin and clothing.
Every woman has their own personal experience with their period so it’s really up to each individual to figure out how long it will take for their flow to reach the maximum absorbency of each underwear.
Depending on how heavy each woman’s flow is, some women may be comfortable wearing their period underwear for the entire day, while others might prefer to change to a fresh pair more regularly.
An easy way to tell if you should be changing to a fresh pair of period underwear is to check the side seams of gusset (the patch of fabric that sits on the inner crotch of your period underwear).
Seeing blood on the side seams will be a good indicator that your underwear is reaching maximum absorbency.
Yes, please wash your period underwear before your first and after every subsequent use.
With proper care and love, our Mooncheeks period underwear should last for at least 50 washes. Be sure to take note of our washing instructions below! After which, the underwear can be used as normal undies.
Throughout their lifetime, a single menstruator will use an estimated 5 to 15 thousand pads and tampons, a vast majority of which end up in landfills as plastic waste. Using Mooncheeks period underwear as a substitute for pads and tampons will help to minimise the waste from pads and tampons.
How to care for your Mooncheeks underwear ('cos getting ready for The Great Flood is important).
1. Rinse your Mooncheeks under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. Toss into a wash bag or with garments of a similar colour. Wash your Mooncheeks in a delicate cycle in the washing machine. Do not use any softeners or bleach.
3. Alternatively, hand wash your Mooncheeks in lukewarm water. This will help with the longevity of the underwear.
4. Turn your Mooncheeks inside out to dry. Please hang dry, do not tumble dry or dry clean.
5. Rewear your Mooncheeks once dry.
6. Ironing is not required.
